SARAJEVO
Breza town which is 30 kilometres away from Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia Herzegovina, is famous for its local mining activities.
AA has visited the women miners in Breza's colliery.
Every day 10 brave women go under the soil for metres.
One of the collier, Sakiba Covic told AA, "We go for 400 metres deep every day. As well as good sides, there are bad and tough times in any job."
Covic who has been one of the first female miners started working in the coal mine works as a technician and measures and analysis the air in the mine.
Covic who will retire in three years of time stated that she is aware of the dangers of her profession and said, "mining accidents are something that can happen any day."
She added that she lost her brother at a mining accident and says, "We work under pressure every day. Accidents might happen while walking on the street. However, here even the term of "mine hole" is enough to scare people", and states that it is because there are not enough investments in the mining industry.
