LONDON
Three armed police officers from the Diplomatic Protection Group (DPG) have been arrested over allegations of possessing and distributing "obscene images" on their mobile phones while on duty.
The DPG provides protection for foreign embassies in London, and is responsible for guarding and controlling access to Scotland Yard and Downing Street.
The Metropolitan Police said that the officers were being investigated "on suspicion of possessing and distributing hardcore pornography".
Scotland Yard stated on Friday that the Downing Street officers were arrested on December 19, and following their arrests, were questioned at a central London police station. The search warrants were also issued for their home addresses.
Scotland Yard added that the images found were "of an extreme sexual nature," however they did not involve children, the statement said.
Two of the officers have been placed on restricted duties, while the third officer has been suspended.
