CAIRO
A senior leader of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood has condemned the assassination on Tuesday morning of a top aide to Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim.
"These assassinations pose a threat to the nation's stability and security," Mohamed Ali Beshr told Anadolu Agency by phone.
Gen. Mohamed Said, director of the interior minister's technical office, was gunned down Tuesday morning outside his home in the Giza district of Talbiya.
Beshr, a former minister under ousted president Mohamed Morsi, said the "lack of seriousness" of authorities' efforts to find the perpetrators of a recent string of assassinations "tempts criminals to carry out" more attacks.
Senior police officer Mohamed Mabrouk, who had been in charge of the counter-terrorism file at the ministry's Homeland Security Agency, was shot dead outside his Cairo home last November.
Last September, Ibrahim's motorcade was bombed as he left his home in Cairo's Nasr City district. One conscript was killed and more than 20 injured, including ten from the minister's personal security detail.
The two attacks were later claimed by shadowy militant group Ansar Beit al-Maqdis.
