The founder of the Egypt Freedom Party, Amr Hamzawy called on all political parties and civil society organizations to make an election coalition in order to compete with Islamic oriented parties in Egypt.
In an exclusive interview with the Anadolu Agency (AA), Hamzawy said that he believed Islamic oriented parties would preserve their majority in the parliament in the upcoming elections.
"It is impossible for the existing political road map in Egypt to change," Hamzawy stated.
Arguing that there was no line separating the Egyptian President Mursi and the Muslim Brotherhood Organization, Hamzawy wanted Mursi to clearly place a line between himself and the organization.
"Turkey's political experiences may guide us. If we want to benefit from Turkey's experience, we should look at how they have made a separation between a political party and a president," Hamzawy stated.
"I believe that this issue shows why Turkey, in general, has been successful," Hamzawy noted.
-A single party in parliament undesirable for democracy-
"The presence of a single party in Egypt that controls both the parliament and the presidency is undesirable for democracy," Hamzawy argued.
"The Dustur Party led by Muhammad Al-Baradei is a home to many political characters and has an important place in Egyptian politics. The Dustur Party will begin working so as to establish coalitions in the future. I believe that the coalitions established will have the strength to compete successfully. The presence of only a single party in the parliament is undesirable from the perspective of democracy. As such, I believe that competition is vital," Hamzawy also said.
