The delegates working on the Geneva deal on Iran's nuclear program suggest that the P5+1 countries and Iran begin implementing the Geneva deal on January 20, said Technical Negotiation Delegation Chairman Hamid Baeidinejad on Thursday.
On Monday, experts from Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council - Russia, China, France, Britain and the US - plus Germany launched the third round of talks to devise a mechanism to implement a landmark interim deal reached between the two sides in the Swiss city of Geneva on November 24.
Reminding of US Foreign Ministry spokesperson Marie Harf's words that they have not reached a hundred percent agreement with Iran, Baeidnejad said, "the technical team of Geneva deal has completed the negotiations and technical surveys. They have submitted the results to political authorities. Of course this does not mean that we have reached a final agreement; there are some issues to be resolved at the political level."
Expressing that a date had been agreed upon for starting the deal's implementation, Iranian nuclear negotiator and Foreign Ministry Chief Director of Political and International Affairs Abbas Araqchi reiterated that he would meet with a deputy of EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton, Helga Schmid, to settle related political issues.
"Certain issues are still needed to be settled at political level. It is expected that a meeting will be held next week with Ms. Schmid for resolving these matters," said Araqchi.
Under the Geneva deal, P5+1 countries undertook to provide Iran with some sanctions relief in exchange forIran agreeing to limit certain aspects of its nuclear activities during a six-month period. It was also agreed that no further nuclear-related sanctions would be imposed on Iran within the same time frame.
