The Israeli army has discharged 27,000 reservists, who had been called up for a military onslaught on the Gaza Strip, an army spokesman said Wednesday.
"Some 27000 soldiers have been discharged, while 55000 others are still on duty," Avichay Adraee told Anadolu Agency.
The Israeli army had called up 82201 reservists for its military offensive on the Gaza Strip, which killed at least 1967 Palestinians dead and more than 9450 others injured since July 7.
The offensive came to a halt on Tuesday under a three-day ceasefire brokered by Egypt.
The Israeli army has since withdrawn its forces from the Gaza Strip to "defensive positions" outside the enclave.
Palestinian factions and Israel are currently holding indirect talks in Egypt for reaching a durable ceasefire in the blockaded Gaza Strip.
