Chinese authorities confirmed Wednesday that more than 60 people were injured after a magnitude 5.5 earthquake rocked the western Tibet region.
State news agency Xinhua reported that the casualties -- six of them serious -- were recorded in the town of Kata, where the epicenter was located at a depth of 7 kilometers (4.3 miles).
Several buildings collapsed and roads caved in across various townships of Dengqen County after the morning temblor.
China’s Tibet rests on a major seismic zone in the earthquake-prone country.
