Ten days after warehouse explosions in north China left 121 people dead and 54 missing, a chemical plant in the country's east has been rocked by another blast.
State news agency Xinhua reported Sunday that one person had died and nine others were injured when the explosion ripped through the plant in Shandong Province on Saturday night.
Around 150 firefighters from the local fire brigade are battling the blaze, with more from neighboring cities heading to help.
Xinhua reported the official Sina Weibo account of the public security bureau of Zibo City, which administers Huantai, as saying the injured are being treated in the hospital.
It said that the plant produces chemicals such as adiponitrile, a colorless liquid that gives off toxic fumes after decomposing on heating or burning.
Since the Aug. 12 blast in north China's Tianjin Municipality, police have detained 10 people, including chairman and vice chairman of company that owned the warehouse.
China’s most populated city Shanghai has also launched widespread work-safety inspections for enterprises dealing with hazardous chemicals, inflammable materials and explosives.
President Xi Jinping had urged authorities to learn from the "extremely profound" lesson.
