BAGHDAD
At least seven people, including an Iraqi Shiite leader were killed and 20 others injured in a suicide car bomb attack Tuesday in Baghdad, Iraqi security sources said.
According to the sources, a suicide attacker exploded his bomb-laden vehicle in the city’s Kadhimiya region that apparently targeted Badr Organization’s deputy leader Ahmed Ali al-Hafaci.
The Badr Organization, previously known as the Badr Brigades or Badr Corps, is a powerful Shiite political and paramilitary group. It said to have close ties with former premier Nuri al-Maliki.
Al Hafaci was a respected member of the Badr organization and had also been reportedly awarded a seat at the Iraqi parliament, sources added.
The death toll in the blast is expected to rise further.
