A U.S. national was shot dead and a second was injured in a Tuesday attack in Saudi capital Riyadh, a police spokesman has said.
The two Americans came under fire while fueling their car in eastern Riyadh, the spokesman said in a statement cited by Saudi's official news agency.
The attacker was injured and arrested following a shootout with security forces, the spokesman said.
The Saudi Interior Ministry said that the attacker had no links with extremist groups.
"Security agencies did not find any link between him and radical organizations," ministry spokesman Mansur al-Turki said.
He said the attacker had been sacked by the Vinnell Arabia, a U.S. defense contractor where the two Americans were working.
Earlier Tuesday, the U.S. State Department said that the two Americans were working for Vinnell Arabia, a U.S. defense contractor supporting Saudi National Guard military programs in Riyadh.
Tuesday's attack came three days after Washington warned U.S. nationals of possible attacks over an ongoing military campaign against the militant Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group.
Saudi Arabia has joined a U.S.-led campaign to attack targets of ISIL, which has recently seized vast swathes of territory in both Iraq and Syria.
