TUNIS
The Tunisian government has received $200 million from Turkey, the second and final tranche of a $500 million loan pledged by Ankara last year, Tunisian Foreign Minister Al-Mongey Hamdi said Tuesday.
Hamdi made the announcement at a joint press conference with Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu, who is currently visiting Tunisia to show Turkey's support for the newly-appointed cabinet of Prime Minister Mehdi Jomaa.
"The Tunisian Central Bank last week received the second $200 million tranche of the Turkish loan," Hamdi confirmed.
Last summer, Tunisia's National Constituent Assembly approved the loan, provided by the Turkish government to support the North African country's post-revolution democratic transition.
Of the total amount pledged by Turkey, $100 million will come in the form of a grant.
Tunisia's new government was sworn in late last month by President Moncef Marzouki.
