ANKARA
Turkish food minister has said that Turkey was ready to extend any kind of support to Zanzibar.
A statement by his ministry said on Wednesday that Food, Agriculture & Animal Breeding Minister Mehdi Eker, who was in Tanzania for the first term meeting of the Turkish-Tanzanian Joint Economic Committee (JEC), also paid a visit to Zanzibar, a semi-autonomous part of Tanzania.
Zanzibari officials told Eker that Turkey could open a consulate to boost relations between Turkey and Zanzibar.
Zanzibar was eager to benefit from experiences of Turkey especially in the field of agriculture, officials said.
Zanzibar had a great potential in the tourism sector and Turkey could support it in this sector as well, they said.
Eker said that Turkey and Zanzibar could cooperate in several areas including agricultural production and food security.
