US Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer slammed President Donald Trump’s handling of the war with Iran and announced plans for repeated Senate votes to rein in the administration’s military authority.
"Let's call Trump's Iran policy for what it is. Not Trump's Operation Epic Fury, Trump's Operation 'Epic Failure'…what a colossal failure," Schumer told a reporter Tuesday on Capitol Hill.
Schumer said Senate Democrats will begin forcing votes this week on a war powers resolution aimed at limiting US military involvement, invoking Congress’s constitutional authority over armed conflict.
"So if Republicans won't act Senate, Senate Democrats will force the issue. Starting this week, we will bring a war powers resolution to the floor, and if Republicans block it, we will vote again and again and again until this war ends, or Congress does its job and holds the administration accountable," he added.
Schumer indicated that multiple resolutions have already been filed and pledged to continue bringing them forward on a weekly basis if necessary.
"We will bring these resolutions to the floor every week. I believe 10 of them have been filed," he said.
Schumer framed the effort as a matter of responsibility to US service members.
A total of 13 US service members have been killed since the Operation Epic Fury began against Iran on Feb. 28.
