ANKARA (AA) - July 26, 2012 - Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmet Davutoglu has said, "This Ramadan, we share the pains of people in Arakan and on the other side, we share a common fate with people of Syria who are trying to stand still."
Speaking at the "7th Traditional Fast-Breaking Meal of Konya Bureaucrats" on Wednesday, Davutoglu said that, a year ago, at the same meeting they were sharing the pains of Libyans. "This year, we share the pain of our brothers and sisters in Arakan and also we share a common fate with Syrians who try to stand still among all that cruelty."
Reminding Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's and his visit to Somalia, Davutoglu said that at that trip they wanted to announce the voice of conscience. Davutoglu pointed that their visit was important for African individuals and said, "Mogadishu did not receive any statesmen for years and it was considered as forgotten and abandoned however we went there and opened an embassy."
After explaining what Turkey did in Somalia, he said, "If Somalis are hopeful about the future at the moment, then Turkey's people have a big role in it. We feel the same for Arakan and Muslims in Myanmar."
A statement by the Religious Affairs Directorate said that more than 1,000 Arakan Muslims in Myanmar were killed and more than 90,000 Muslims were left homeless and Arakan Muslims have been suffering from killings, human rights violations, violence, torture and rape, according to the statement.
He mentioned that they would be launching an embassy in Myanmar soon and said that they are in touch with Bangladesh and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and working hard for forwarding the humanitarian aid to Arakan.
Reminding the transferred aid to Libya, Davutoglu said that they told the same thing to Syria that "Do not ever think that your brothers and sisters have left you alone."
Also Davutoglu added that there is an already elected president in Egypt and said, "I had the pleasure of paying the first visit to the elected president of Egypt as a foreign affairs minister," and continued saying, "We hope that the settled democracy in Egypt will make Egypt become the stability force of its region. We hope that the common strategic relations between Turkey and Egypt will prepare the basis of fraternal structuring in the region of Middle East. In the next two months time, we will be reactualizing the 'High Level Strategic Cooperation' mechanism between Egypt and Turkey."
Turkish minister of foreign affairs said that Turkey will be standing by Egypt all the time and continued, "The success of Egypt will make us happy. We do not see any countries in the region as our competitors neither seeing their people as enemies to us."
Moreover, touching on the Syria crisis, Ahmet Davutoglu stressed that Turkey will not be keeping quite about the ongoing violence in Syria and they had good relations with Al-Assad in the past decade and they always reminded to Syrian officials that they should not leave the way of justice and never carry on with the violence.
Davutoglu underlined the politics of Turkey over the Syria crisis and said that their politics is right and faithful.
Turkish minister said that they work for Turkey's benefits and strategic targets. "As the Middle East and the world are in transformation process, we could not be the 'only watching' country. We will never follow the 'wait and see' policy and run after incidents. We will be the managers and we will play effectively in order to form the course of events."
Furthermore, Davutoglu said, "Hopefully these pains will be over one day. When the pains and the violence are over, Turkey and Syria will continue walking together as two friends and neighbouring countries. I believe that we will have a bright future. I would like to express once again that, as Turkey, our ultimate aim is to secure peace, stability and serenity in the neighbouring countries and in the region countries. We would like to see these countries being the leaders of the world politics because these regions; Middle East, Balkans, Caucasus and the Central Asia, are around us, being our region."
