ANKARA
The leader of the Syrian National Coalition for Opposition and Revolutionary Forces, Sheikh Ahmad Moaz al-Khatib announced that they were ready for dialogue with the Syrian government but that they had certain conditions for such dialogue.
In a message posted on his Facebook and Twitter accounts, al-Khatib underlined that they could meet with the representatives of the Assad regime in Cairo, Tunis or Istanbul so that the bloodshed in Syria comes to an end.
Among the conditions al-Khatib listed for meeting with the Assad regime was the release of 160,000 prisoners and the extension of passports held by Syrian citizens.
Al-Khatib underlined that the Syrian National Coalition would hold a meeting on the matter.
-Members of Syrian National Coalition distant to their leader al-Khatib's offer
On the other hand, Members of the Syrian National Coalition for Opposition and Revolutionary Forces on Wednesday placed themselves distant to the remarks of their leader Sheikh Ahmad Moaz al-Khatib who offered possible "talks" with the Syrian regime based on certain conditions.
A member of the Syrian National Coalition, Heysem Malih said that al-Khatib's remarks on Wednesday were very puzzling, a day before the coalition's Consultation Council convenes in Cairo.
"Al-Khatib should have made his comments as a person and not as the leader of the coalition. Al-Khatib said that he delivered his own remarks but this was not sufficient," Malih stressed.
Secretary General of the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood, Ali al-Beyanuni underlined that al-Khatib's comments violated the principle of the Syrian National Coalition and the National Council not to hold "talks with the Syrian regime".
Sunir Ahmad, a member of the Syrian National Coalition, underlined that al-Khatib's remarks did not represent the views of the coalition.
